I gotta do some bragging here

We spent this evening at the Blue and Gold Banquet for Brice's Cub Scout Pack today. He got his Bobcat Badge and his Tiger Cub Badge. He was pretty pleased with himself. Bob and I are proud of him. He is a good kid, I am glad he is a part of our lives.

This picture was taken with my phone so it is not so great. The banquet had a luau theme, that is why the man in the picture is wearing a coconut bra.

Now, I have to brag a little about my daughter, Kaytee as well. She has worked in the medical field since she volunteered at a local hospital in 1997, she was 14 at the time. She decided last year to further her education and applied for the Radiographer program at TCC. Her ultimate goal is to become a Radiologist, but first things first. She got a letter last week for her "pre-selection interview". When she went for the interview the program director explained that the applicants were ranked based on several factors, GPA, ACT scores, experience in the medical field, community service to name a few. To make this long story as short as possible, she was ranked 8th out of 167. That girl is something else, I tell ya.

I have got about 60 or so rows knitted on my husband's sweetheart shorts, thanks to Marianne. She is the greatest, divot and all.

Today is my sister Beth's birthday. She is my older sister, and the mother of my beautiful and talented nieces, Leslie, Kacey (the photographer) and Jenna. Kacey has set up her own blog. If you feel like making a 7-year-olds day, pop in and leave a comment for her.

Emma and Sue mentioned taking knit nite on a field trip or a yarn hop. I'm in. I finished my taxes (finally) today and I still have some money left...may as well spend it on yarn. If we are going to that place downtown, though, I am going to have to go find it in the daylight.

The Sweetheart shorts are going to have to wait

I have been to every LYS and no one has the needles that I need to make the Sweetheart shorts. Well, ALMOST every LYS. A salesperson in one store told me about another store, she said that it was near downtown at 3rd and Lansing. So off I went. It was about 7:00pm and was dark, so I may have missed it, but the only thing that I saw that was open for business looked like a Methodone Clinic. It is a very poorly lit street and there were 3 or 4 freakishly thin people standing out front. I thought it might not be a good idea to go in and ask for needles, so I decided to just stay in my car and order them online. It is just as well that I haven't been able to get the needles locally because I still haven't finished my taxes. I am not supposed to be knitting till those are done anyway.

For your amusement, here is a photograph of my crazy 7-year-old niece. It is so cool to me because not only did she set this shot up, but she took it herself.

Happy Valentine's Day

I hope everyone had a romantic evening. We did, but then I am married to a pretty romantic guy. He makes sure that most days are special. I don't know where I would be without him. My life would suck for sure.

I got my box from Knitpicks today and I can't wait to get started on our Sweetheart shorts.

I probably won't start them until this weekend. I gotta finish my taxes before I start any new projects.

My Mom and her Sophie Bag

My mom made a Sophie Bag and she actually followed the pattern and made it the way it was supposed to be made.

She carried it into the LYS the other day and they loved it. They took her picture and put it on their blog entry for February 1, 2007. My mom is a great lady and I think she makes the most awesome felted bags. I think it is pretty cool when someone else appreciates them.

I finally got to do a little knitting

It has been such a long time, I was afraid I had forgotten how. I needed some instant gratification so I decided to choose something that I could finish quickly. A felted bag, that is a good quick project, yeah, that is where I will start.

Here is how my thought process went on this project, "I think I will knit a Sophie Bag but I think I want something a little thicker, heavier, sturdier. OK, I will use size 15 needles and double the yarn. Yeah, that will be perfect, except it will be way too big. No problem, I will just make the bottom a little smaller (30 stitches X 20 rows) and make the decreases every 8 rows instead of 10 so it won't be quite so tall. Perfect, absolutely perfect, except I have these two rings that I have been wanting to use for something. OK, I will just knit them into the bag and attach an I-cord, one end to one ring and the other end to a clasp so that I can have an adjustable strap instead of the twisty handle on the original pattern. That should make it perfect...no more changes, except for a flap, a flap would really be nice, I think. But that is all, just a couple of minor adjustments to the original pattern. You can hardly tell the difference. Here is how it looks right now:
I used Knit Picks Wool of the Andes (330yds) in Sapphire Heather. I am fi'in to throw it in the washer and see what happens.

I also found a little time to knit a calorimetry. I love it! It is perfect for those of us that have too much hair to try to cram into a hat. It knitted up very quickly and couldn't have been any easier. I used Cascade 220 for this one.

It is getting plenty of use too, with all of the winter weather we have had. I have lived in Oklahoma all of my life and I don't ever remember having this much snow/ice in one winter before. I love the snow, it is so beautiful. It is also enough. I would love to see a couple of weeks with temperatures in the mid forties.

Here is the felted bag after two trips through the washer. It is a small bag, about 8" across the bottom, 6" across the top and about 6" deep. About the perfect size for me, I prefer small purses. Yeah, it is the perfect size, the perfect color. Yeah, now I finally think that it is PERFECT. Except maybe I will add a magnetic snap...
